The Power of Storytelling: Why We Need to Read Fiction in Our Lives?

Nowadays, I hear from many people reading fiction books is just a waste of time. Scientific and non-fiction are way much better, but I disagree with this option.

Reading.

Probably one of the old ways to transfer information. It comes from our nature of being social. We need to share knowledge or tell stories.

Also, it is one of the lonely acts. Usually, a writer writes alone, and the reader reads alone. However, it is beneficial. Reading puts our brains into a pleasurable trance-like state, similar to meditation. This brings with it the same health benefits of deep relaxation and inner calm. Regular readers sleep better, have lower stress levels, higher self-esteem, and lower rates of depression than non-readers.

So why do people think reading fiction is useless? I believe the answer is we want to get hints, answers, and techniques very quickly. We live fast lives. We also consume fast food, clothes, necessities, and information. If you are reading a fiction book, maybe it will not help you in a few days or weeks, but in the long term, it will definitely help you.

But the benefits of reading fiction don’t stop there. Reading fiction can also improve our empathy and understanding of others. When we read about characters in a book, we are able to see the world from their perspective and understand their thoughts and feelings. This can help us to better understand and relate to others in our own lives.

In addition to improving our empathy, reading fiction can also improve our creativity and imagination. When we read a book, we are transported to another world and are able to imagine new possibilities and scenarios. This can help us to think more creatively and come up with new ideas.

It also helps with critical thinking and decision-making in judgemental situations.

In conclusion, reading fiction books has numerous benefits for our mental and emotional well-being. From reducing stress to improving sleep, empathy, creativity, and imagination, there are many reasons to add more fiction to your reading list.

Thanks for reading! I wish you a great day ahead!😊
