Benjamin. Who do you think he is?
An odd resemblance, but it doesn’t matter.
No system is safe. And the systems that people build in their minds. The world is full of Hackers, who aim to conquer. Is Benjamin a mental patient who believes his own lies or a very professional liar? What to believe is up to the beholder. Fight club but in Hackers’ world.
Although the movie has some gaps, the confusing screenplay makes it interesting. 2014 German thriller that takes you on a roller coaster ride of suspense, action, and drama.
Who am I is a movie directed by Baran bo Odar and tells the story of Benjamin, a socially awkward computer genius who joins a hacker group called CLAY (Clowns Laughing @ You) and becomes involved in a series of cyber attacks that attract the attention of the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and the European Cybercrime Centre (EC3).
The movie is not only a gripping thriller, but also a clever exploration of the themes of identity, belonging, friendship, and betrayal. The movie uses an unreliable narrator technique, as Benjamin recounts his story to a psychologist in an interrogation room, leaving the audience to question what is real and what is not. The movie also uses a stylish visual language, with colorful graphics, animations, and transitions that reflect the hacker culture and mindset.
Some points I did not like about the movie:
- The film lacks any strong message.
- An attempt to create a seductive image of immorality at some points. Unfortunately, this trend has become a part of the film industry in modern times.
- Logical gaps. In fact, it’s easy to enter and roam around heavily guarded buildings.
