Learning from Failure: My Experience with 2 Startups & the Key Takeaways: #7 Founder Burnout

When you look at yourself in the mirror, that is not you. Your body and mind are full of wounds. What do you want? Was that the aim you wanted to achieve?

  • You are tired😩
  • Sometimes you feel rude⚠️
  • All team members lost interest💤
  • You are a loser😵

Burnout is a process you even can not understand, you are killing yourself. Your dream startup is collapsing in front of your eyes, you can not do anything, even if you think you are doing something.

So the best solution for burnout is never to reach it to all. However, it is not that easy.

What I did as a founder who failed several times, learning from the mistakes, is a good option. You can check all the failure stories that I have shared before for not following them.

Initially, you should understand that it’s a long journey. If you spend all of your efforts in the short run and waste energy probably you will fail. Like sprint and marathon runners, the aims are different. So your mind and body health is a precious present. If you kill it for one startup, then you are the barrier to the next endeavors. Do not forget to have a rest, you will feel guilty, but it will pass.

The next point is that a startup is not a one-man show in most cases. The team is the way you live and build a product together. Sometimes, all team members are not motivated to work, and the reason is perhaps you. So task allocating and having fun is vital. In harsh times you could brake hearts, just do not fear to accept mistakes and say sorry.

If the team members lose interest, are late for meetings, do not seem to be having fun, or there are delays in the product development roadmap, then it is time to question. Do they want to go on, or you must do all the work by yourself? I have a definite no for the second one. A clock can not work with a lonely wheel. You are damaging yourself and the people around you. Sometimes, just pausing and trying to understand is the best choice.

You are bored and do not want to continue, it is not your dream job, it is just an addiction. Now you are a loser, no one enjoys working with you. So, why did you decide to be an entrepreneur? Leaving that vicious cycle, but you created your own monster that is ready to kill you. The dose defines the poison. Now just decide, and think rationally. Do you want to continue this pain or free your mind and have peace?

Finally, that is not easy to quit, I understand. Even you can get some professional medical help if you feel a mental breakdown and can not manage founder burnout by yourself. In this post, I shared just my own experience. Hope you will not reach that point. Have a nice one😊

Congratulations! You nailed it!🌻
